FAQs

What is the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP)?+−

The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) is a train-and-place programme to support mid-career individuals seeking  a career switch. This programme enables them to acquire industry-relevant skills and hence improve their employability and pivot to IT job roles.

Who is eligible for the SCTP?+−

Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents aged 21 and above who are actively looking to transition to a new job role or sector. Both employed and unemployed individuals can apply, provided they can meet training commitments and are committed to seeking employment upon completion.

Do I need prior knowledge in IT networking or cybersecurity?+−

Prior knowledge is not compulsory. However, applicants will undergo a profiling interview to assess their suitability.

What kind of funding is available?+−

The funding is provided in tiers:

  • Baseline Funding: All eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents receive up to 70% of the course fees.

  • Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy: Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above will receive enhanced funding of up to 90%.

  • Additional Funding Support: Singapore Citizens who are jobseekers with greater needs (such as long-term unemployed individuals, ComCare SMTA recipients, or Persons with Disabilities) may be eligible for additional course fee funding support.

Can I use my SkillsFuture Credit?+−

Yes, you can use your SkillsFuture Credit and the additional Mid-Career Support Credit to offset the nett course fees.

What happens if I drop out or fail a module?+−

SSG course fee funding is conditional upon successful completion. To be eligible for the subsidy, all trainees must meet the minimum attendance requirement (typically 75%) and be assessed as “Competent” on all assessments. If trainees do not meet these requirements, ITEL will not be able to claim the subsidy from SSG. In this event, trainees will become liable for the full, unsubsidized course fee and may be asked to return the course fee subsidy that trainees have received, including any additional course fee funding support.

What is the duration of SCTP?+−

Our SCTP Programme range from 3 to 6 months depending on whether they are full-time or part-time:

  • Full Time: Typically conducted on weekdays 9am to 6pm.

  • Part Time: Usually scheduled on weekday evenings (7pm to 10.45pm) and /or weekend (9am to 6pm) on Saturday.

Can I switch to a different SCTP course after enrolling?+−

Course transfers are generally not allowed. Applicants should carefully select a course that aligns with their career goals before applying.

Can I defer my SCTP course after enrolling?+−

Yes, you may request a deferment (referred to as a “postponement of commencement date”). Your request must be made in writing and received at least two weeks before the course commencement date. Please note that all requests are subject to management approval, and you are limited to one change request per registration.

Can I appeal if I am rejected from an SCTP course?+−

Yes, applicants may appeal by providing additional supporting documents for trainees profiling status. However, admission is subject to meeting course prerequisites and availability. Furthermore, no appeals will be considered if the SSG Funding Eligibility criteria are not met.

Are there attendance requirements for SCTP?+−

Yes, trainees must meet the minimum attendance requirements (typically 75% for most courses), to remain eligible for funding.

What are the requirements to pass SCTP?+−

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, trainees are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and  pass the associated assessment for every module in order to be eligible for programme funding and to be awarded the certificate issued by ITEL.

In the event that a trainee fails an assessment, only 1 retake is allowed and this is chargeable.

Trainees who are unable to meet the attendance and assessment requirements, or exit the programme without a valid reason, may be asked to return the programme funding that they have received, including any additional course fee funding support.

Can I withdraw from SCTP after enrolling? What is the process?+−

To withdraw from the process, you must submit a written “notice of withdrawal.” Please note that withdrawals are NOT permitted once you have received a written confirmation. If you withdraw before receiving written confirmation, refunds will be processed based on the time period between the written confirmation and the commencement date of the first course.

Learner’s Testimonials

““ I have been in the logistics industry, and during my time there, I learned some basics from my IT colleagues. Now that I have enrolled in the SCTP Higher Certificate in Networking program, everything has come together in my mind, and the teaching of the terminologies makes much more sense. Jay is an excellent trainer; he takes the time to slow down if we do not understand certain concepts and explains them in different ways until we grasp the material before moving on. I have fully benefited from this course and will be applying these skills in my upcoming job.””
